Car Locksmith Adelaide.
Keys locked inside, lost entirely, or a remote that has stopped working. What is possible depends almost entirely on the make, model and year, so have those three ready when you call and you will get a straight answer quickly.
Why vehicle work is different.
House keys are mechanical. Modern vehicle keys are mechanical and electronic, and the electronic half is what makes the job model-specific.
Three separate things
- The blade. The metal part that turns the barrel. Cutting it needs the right blank and the correct cuts, which can often be produced from the vehicle's key code.
- The transponder. A chip that the immobiliser interrogates before the engine will start. A perfectly cut blade with no programmed chip will turn the ignition and go nowhere.
- The remote. Central locking, boot release and alarm functions. Sometimes a separate module, sometimes integrated.
Each of those may be possible, restricted or manufacturer-only depending on the vehicle. Some makes and newer models keep key programming inside their dealer network, and where that is the case the honest answer is that the dealer is your route: we would rather tell you that on the phone than after attending.
What to have ready
Make, model and year: the three that decide everything. Proof of ownership, such as registration in your name plus photo identification, which is required before any vehicle work. And where the vehicle is, particularly if it is somewhere with restricted access like a car park or a compound.
Vehicle coverage depends on make, model, year and sometimes the individual variant. Rather than imply every vehicle is covered, give us those details and you will get a direct yes, no, or "this is a dealer job" before you commit to anything.
The spare key argument.
This is the one piece of advice that saves the most money and the most inconvenience, and almost nobody acts on it until it is too late.
A vehicle interior heats up dangerously fast, and Adelaide summers are unforgiving. Do not wait for a locksmith in that situation. Emergency services will attend and get the door open immediately.
Cut and programmed where the car is.
Vehicle work happens in the driveway or at the roadside. The blade is cut and the transponder programmed to the car, so a lost key does not also mean a tow.

What we get asked.
Make, model and year answers most of these in about thirty seconds on the phone.
Call 0413 613 190Can you make a key if I have lost all of them?
For many vehicles, yes: the blade is originated from the key code and the transponder programmed to the immobiliser. Some makes and newer models restrict programming to their dealer network. Proof of ownership and identification are required in every case. Give us the make, model and year for a definite answer.
Will opening my car damage it?
Proper technique on a supported vehicle should not. The damage people encounter usually comes from improvised attempts with coat hangers and wedges, which bend frames, tear weather seals and can disturb airbag and wiring runs inside the door. If you are locked out, it is worth waiting rather than improvising.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealer?
Frequently, and a locksmith comes to the vehicle rather than requiring it to be towed to a dealership, which often matters more than the price difference when the car cannot be driven. For vehicles where programming is dealer-restricted, the dealer is the only route and we will say so.
My remote has stopped working. Is the key dead?
Usually not. The most common causes are a flat remote battery or the remote losing synchronisation with the vehicle, both of which are minor. Note that on most cars the transponder does not need battery power, so a car that unlocks with the blade and starts normally but will not respond to the buttons is almost certainly just a battery.
Do you do motorcycles, trucks or machinery?
It depends on the machine and its locking and immobiliser system. Some are straightforward, others are specialised. Tell us what it is and we will confirm whether it is something we can help with before you make arrangements around it.
What proof of ownership do you need?
Photo identification plus something linking you to the vehicle: registration papers, an insurance certificate, or a purchase document in your name. For a company or fleet vehicle, written authority from the owner. This is not negotiable, for reasons that are fairly obvious.
